Silver Thread Vineyard has more than 30 years of history but Paul and Shannon Brock became the new owners in 2011.
It is a small vineyard (around 4ha) really dedicated on quality and sustainable farming. Estate vines are farmed using holistic, non-chemical approach called « bio-intensive » viticulture.
It is located on the east side of Seneca lake.
They produce dry Riesling, Semi-dry Riesling, off-dry Gewürztraminer, barrel fermented, neutral oaked Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Cabernet franc and sauvignon, a bit of Merlot. All hand harvested.
The winemaker here is really passionate about giving the true expression of the grape. Thanks to this, wines, either whites or reds, are subtil and fruits driven. Neutral oak only gives structure and don’t bring any oak for the reds and the Chardonnay.
This vineyard with an « organic » approach of the viticulture and vinif is (again) a good example of what is going on here. They can almost do whatever they want and don’t hesitate to experiment. As for example their first Riesling Late Harvest ever from 2017 we had the chance to taste!
Moreover, we really enjoyed the semi-dry Riesling 2017 (22g/L rs) with pure peach, lemon and kiwi on the nose. Delicate acidity that goes well with the mild sweetness on the palate. Yummy !
