Lakewood Vineyard, Finger Lakes, USA

Lakewood vineyard was established in the early 50’s with the production of grape juice with hybrids. In the late 70’s they started to produce wine as well with hybrids and vinifera. It is family managed and soon you enter here you feel it, literally.

They produce white, red and sparkling wines thanks to Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, Cayuga, Vidal blanc, Vignoles, Valvin muscat, Niagara, Gewürztraminer, Concord, Lemberger, Cabernet Franc, Pinot noir.

Here you have the choice between old world wines style and new world finger lake style. Riesling and Gewurzt are pure, straight and intense. Pinot noir are fruity and soft.

The big discover here are wines made from hybrids! These wines are truly aromatic and intense. Some are « simple » in their style and are really easy-to-drink, others are more complex.

You can also find 2 sparkling wines (red and white) made with added CO2.

The Vignoles 2018 is delicious, off-dry with apricot, peach, lime and some spicy notes. On the mouth there is a kind of bitterness but it is not bad. This grape was hybridized by J.F Ravat in 1929, this tiny golden colored grape is a cross between Pinot noir and a Seibel hybrid.
