Fox Run is one of the famous vineyard in the Finger Lakes, west side. The vineyard was established in 1984, the winery built in 1990 and Scott Osborn bought it in 1994. He came straight from California, where they told him he would not be able to make reds in the Finger Lakes… He now produces one of the best Cabernet Sauvignon from a cool climate…
They produce 60% whites (Riesling dry and semi-dry, Chardonnay, Sparkling, Traminette (Gewürztraminer x Hybrid) ) and 40% reds ( Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Lemberger).
They are reducing their carbon footprint by operating on self-generated solar energy.
Vinification here tends to be less impacting as possible to the grape and innovation is in the heart of the process. Wines are either old world style either new world style as the winemaker traveled all around the world. They reflect pretty well the tipicity of the grapes. Full of fruit and complexity thanks to the use of neutral oak barrel.
They are part of the Lake farming friendly community as many of their pair. That means that they are part of a really helpful community of winemakers, producers and owners of vineyard. They help each other, whatever they are small, big, famous or grapegrower.
Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 is absolutely amazing. Elegant, delicate and as well complex with notes of black cherry, black plum, blackcurrant, vanilla, tobacco on the nose. Ripe tannins with a pure freshness on the palate. A really nice expression of a cool climate Cabernet Sauvignon !
